Ophthalmology Brisbane
Comprehensive & Specialist Services
At Eastside Eye Specialist Care, our Brisbane ophthalmologist Joshua Hann diagnoses and treats a range of eye conditions. He strives to offer high-quality, individualized care to those who need him. Under his leadership, Eastside Eye has invested in leading-edge equipment to aid in the diagnosis, treatment and management of common eye diseases.
Although Dr Hann is well-versed in conditions affecting every part of the eye, his anterior segment/cornea fellowship training qualifies him to take care of the most complex conditions affecting the cornea and other structures in the front-most region of the eye. He stays up to date on the latest surgical and ophthalmological breakthroughs thanks to his professional involvement with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists.
Whether you require help for a common eye problem, a specialised corneal procedure or another complex ophthalmological treatment, Dr Hann is here to help. If you have any concerns about changes in your vision or symptoms affecting your eyes, our team encourages you to give us a call or send us an email.
Several of the key conditions and treatments Dr Hann and our team manage are described below.
Cataract Surgery
A cataract is a clouding of the eye’s crystalline lens that causes blurred vision. Most cataracts develop as a result of the natural aging process (although early onset cataracts may occur due to overexposure to UV rays, the long-term use of corticosteroids or pre-existing diabetes). Cataract surgery involves replacing the eye’s clouded natural lens with a clear artificial one. Dr Hann performs this day surgery for insured and uninsured patients. He offers several types of artificial lenses, each with its own unique features. The newest and most advanced type of lens is known as the extended depth of focus (EDOF) lens, and it restores clear vision at near, faraway and intermediate distances.
Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a group of disorders characterized by damage to the optic nerve, which carries information from the eye to the brain. Many cases of glaucoma occur when the pressure inside the eye increases to dangerous levels. Vision lost to glaucoma cannot be recovered, but treatment can prevent any further damage. As such, early detection and treatment are key. Dr Hann and our team manage glaucoma through the use of medicated eyedrops, laser surgery, drainage surgery or shunt surgery with the iStent device to stabilize intraocular pressure.
Macula
The macula is the portion of the eye that controls detail and central vision. Conditions that affect the macula can cause visual changes that have a big impact on your day-to-day life. These conditions include macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease and other inherited and acquired conditions. Eastside Eye can manage macular disease and reduce the risk of permanent vision loss through the use of intravitreal injections or laser therapy.
